Mick Ronson remembers Atomic Sunrise
– or tries to!

Approaching Hammersmith Odeon, Kevin was reminded of the last time he’d been there – 20 years previously.

The last performance of Ziggy.

Didn’t seem possible.

Now it was daytime, so he went to the stage entrance round the side of the building. As the security guard led him towards the heavy swing doors into the auditorium, he couldn’t help but wonder how Mick would be.

The cancer was bad so . . .

But, as the door swung shut behind him, there, near the front row, was Mick. Silhouetted by the spotlight.

Still unmistakable.

As Kevin drew level he saw that the cameraman was already set up. Just doing some fine tuning of the lighting. Looking round, there didn’t seem to be any playback facility so Kevin decided to leave the tape Adrian had entrusted him with, in his pocket. Adrian had wanted to catch Mick’s reaction to seeing one of his first performances with David Bowie – and Hype.

It was the first edit and unseen even by Mick – and this could be the last chance!

But Kevin had questions prepared in his interview anyway. He would make the best of that.

And here it is!
